Gold Holds Firm as Treasury Yields Ease
Gold prices edged higher on Friday, October 16, after reaching a two-week high in the previous session. A weaker US dollar and lower Treasury yields continued to support the precious metal as investors assessed volatility in technology shares and concerns about AI-related investment.
Spot gold rose 0.1% to $4,174.76 per ounce, while US gold futures gained 0.6% to $4,195.87, according to market data reported by Investing.com.
Bond Demand and Dollar Weakness Support Bullion
Concerns about the financial sustainability of AI infrastructure investment have encouraged investors to move toward government bonds. Stronger bond prices generally correspond to lower yields, which can benefit gold because the metal does not pay interest.
A weaker dollar also makes dollar-priced gold more affordable for buyers using other currencies. The US Dollar Index declined during Friday’s trading, adding another supportive factor for bullion.
Inflation and Fed Policy Remain Key Risks
Despite the recent recovery, gold continues to face uncertainty from elevated US inflation. Consumer and producer price data have increased concerns that the Federal Reserve may need to maintain restrictive monetary policy or consider further rate increases.
Higher interest rates and rising yields can increase the opportunity cost of holding gold. Investors will therefore continue to monitor Federal Reserve commentary and changes in Treasury yields for clues about the metal’s next move.
