Gold Rebounds Over 1% as Weaker Dollar and Falling Treasury Yields Support Prices

Gold (XAU/USD)

Gold Recovers After Inflation-Driven Sell-Off

Gold prices rebounded by more than 1% on Thursday, October 15, as a weaker US dollar and falling Treasury yields helped the precious metal recover from the previous session’s sharp decline.

Reuters reported that spot gold rose 1.2% to $4,156.11 per ounce, while US gold futures gained 1.7% to $4,177.80. The recovery followed a sell-off triggered by stronger-than-expected US consumer inflation, which initially boosted the dollar and increased expectations of further Federal Reserve tightening.

Lower Yields and a Softer Dollar Support Bullion

Gold does not pay interest, so declining bond yields can reduce the opportunity cost of holding the metal. A weaker dollar can also make gold more affordable for buyers using other currencies, potentially supporting demand.

The latest rebound came as Treasury yields moved lower and the dollar retreated from an 18-month high. However, the inflation backdrop remains a source of uncertainty. September’s stronger-than-expected CPI report has kept the possibility of another Fed rate increase in focus, which could limit gold’s upside if yields and the dollar strengthen again.

US Economic Data Could Shape the Next Move

Investors are monitoring US producer price inflation and retail sales for additional clues about price pressures and economic activity. These releases could influence expectations for the Federal Reserve’s next policy decision and, in turn, the direction of real yields and the dollar.

For XAU/USD, the near-term outlook remains sensitive to changing interest-rate expectations. The latest gain indicates a recovery from the previous sell-off, but it does not by itself confirm a sustained upward trend.
